- Polar Code – Master Mariners of Canada Presents CMAC with Proposed Polar Code Training Standard
Master Mariners of Canada has been working with the Canadian Delegation to IMO’s Human Resources and Training Working Group and has lead an international working group to the successful development and adoption of a model course for the training of mariners to comply with the Polar Code.
On Wednesday, December 6, Captain Anthony Patterson of our Newfoundland & Labrador Division presented the CMAC Standing Committee Personnel and Certification on with a proposed training standard so that Canadians mariners working in Polar Waters can achieve basic and advanced certificates of proficiency in compliance with Polar Code requirements for navigating in polar waters which in Canada are the waters north of 60o N.
The presentation is attached to Newsclips for your information and further distribution. We must thank and credit the members of the Marine Institute at St. John’s and the Newfoundland & Labrador Division of Master Mariners of Canada for their dedication and success in the preparation of these Standards.
The cross-Canada consultation was funded by the Company of Master Mariners of Canada Foundation.
